This painting started out as an initial speedpainting. But since it was some time ago i did a longer personal painting i decided to add a couple of more hours too it, landing at 5h. A lot of custom brushes were used to paint the rocky textures and a couple of flat rock textures with a blendmode.

There are still some light issues to be painted here and there but i decided to keep it somewhat crude and rough. Cleaning things up sometimes takes away a bit from the image.

A while ago there was an unofficial mattepainting challenge here on CGtalk. The task was to use an original plate, clear it from curtain obstacles then extend the set.

I must admit the challenge was quite fun to do. So i created the matte in Photoshop, and entered after about 30h on it.. The result was quite nice. However i felt that the matte still needed some work on it and so i picked up the work after some months away from it.

And this is the result. There was some minor perspective and light issues that i had to fix and so the process was pretty straight forward.

The mattepainting is a mix of photorefs and digital painting. The usual mattepainting procedure. Hope you like it

Cheers
