This image has some mythical theme to it. The girl is a selfwilling sacrifice, offering up her body to the violent sea, Which is the home of an angry god. I am not sure what to name this savage god though. But i did make a symbol for him on the rock.Maybe something like "Orgau". Lots of custombrushes used for the waves and rocks.
Since its a dwarfmine i choose to be discrete with the design on the exterior architecture. I also applied the entrance shape to the sides of the mountain if you can notice Rest of the landscape is a mix of mountains and swamps...
I kind of felt contended with the lighting so i thought of posting it. The format is abit unusual but i think it enhances the feeling of the ship landing so i kept it this way.Mattes arent suppose to have dynamic objects but i feel this little ship adds more to the story and whole concept of the larger vessel beeing a landing pad.

The image is created in photoshop from a base plate and envolving set extension, skyreplacement, lighting and future design of architecture and ship.

A few weeks ago i was teaching mattepainting and i layed down the base of this matte painting there. The class was a pretty basic take on some of the principals of mattepainting.

It was quite fun to do for an audience. The software I used was Photoshop CS 2 and of course my trusty wacom intuos 2. When i worked on this piece i tried to convey the importance of perspectives, composition, colourbalance, contrast and so on.

After the classes i decided to keep working on the piece, changing and altering the composition to push it further and further. And so a couple of more days with work resulted in this piece.

A while ago there was an unofficial mattepainting challenge here on CGtalk. The task was to use an original plate, clear it from curtain obstacles then extend the set.

I must admit the challenge was quite fun to do. So i created the matte in Photoshop, and entered after about 30h on it.. The result was quite nice. However i felt that the matte still needed some work on it and so i picked up the work after some months away from it.

And this is the result. There was some minor perspective and light issues that i had to fix and so the process was pretty straight forward.
